I kissed Dave that morning when he left for work ... He had run that morning on at the Y, and the day was like any other routine for Dave and I… until I got the call that Dave collapsed at work… 43 hours later is what changed my life forever…Dave died the morning of April 23rd.. They took him off life support. AVM and a renal artery aneurysm had stole his life at a young age of 39. Husband of 12 years and father of our 3 beautiful children. Dave was an avid runner and sometimes was lazy to run some days but he did it anyways.. He also encouraged me to run for the health of it.. And he would sometimes push me off the couch and often said I’d feel better when I’m done. He was so right!!.. I lost several unwanted pounds, and started to train for our first 10k together in the spring. Dave never made it to that date …just 25 days shy of it.... And myself never had done one before… but as the date of the 10K was approaching I didn’t have any doubts that I wasn’t going to attempt this alone… There was the force that kept me going…and I knew I needed to still do it… and if for anything I was going to still run for Dave! I organized with the race owners so that I can run with Dave’s number since he had already pre registered us several weeks prior..… I found a friend to run with my number and one more friend who ran along for moral support. We had a trio that day and was welcomed at the race with open arms.. I have to believe Dave was there in spirit getting us to the finish line. And that is where RUNNING for Dave was born. 10 races I’ve ran since he passed… hundreds of sidewalk miles later with the dog… quite a few blisters… a couple iced knees injuries.. and several angel wings on our sneakers later.. Dave still runs through me and our collective team of friends and family.... and some new friends I’ve met along the way… Keeping his miles going on his sneakers is my goal and “running across America for Dave” is something that keeps me close to him. Dave’s beautiful blue eyes decided our team color of aqua blue… and we never run a race with out Dave close to our heart… he is pinned to our chest at every race… the personalized bib of his handsome face and race information always accompanies us just above our number.. He is always there …crossing each and every finish line… I miss you Dave…
